Dementia Safeguarding Scheme (Herbert Protocol)

Avon and Somerset Police

This scheme helps people living with dementia by allowing them, their family, or their carers to give the police important information that can be used if they go missing or need help. It is for people with dementia who live in the Avon and Somerset area, and the online form collects details like medication, phone numbers, past addresses, places they havve been found before, and photos. Sharing this in advance means carers do not have to remember everything during an emergency, and it helps police start searching familiar or meaningful places sooner. The form must be completed online, and the person’s consent and accurate information are required. The details are stored securely and used only if there are concerns for the person’s safety. People who join the scheme can also request free devices, such as Tile Bluetooth trackers and NFC wristbands or tags
